LEADERSHIP
INSTITUTE
The Business Education Resource Consortium in conjunction with other
California Career Pathway Consortia members is providing a Leadership
Institute for selected educators throughout the state. The Institute is
a six day event:
October 7 & 8;
December 16 &17;
and April 6 & 7.
The purpose of the Institute is to provide an opportunity for educators
to gain skills and strategies to develop and expand partnerships within
their schools, districts, communities, and professional organizations.
Doug Zimmerman of VisionLink, a nationally recognized consulting firm,
is leading the Institute. His consulting team includes Michelle Swanson,
Lois Ann Porter, and J.D.Hoye.
The Business Education Consortium is sponsoring interdisciplinary teams
of educators from the following high schools:
Beyer - Modesto
Indio - Indio
Victor Valley - Victorville
Silverado - Victorville
  
BUSINESS
EDUCATION STANDARDS UPDATE: PROGRESS REPORT
We reported in the Fall newsletter that the Business Education Standards
are being updated. High school and postsecondary teachers and administrators,
as well as industry representatives participated in focus groups from
October through December making recommendations to update the Business
Education Standards. The changes to the Standards recommended by the participants
will be posted on the Business Education Resource Consortium web site,
early in 2000 for field review and comments.
LEADERSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES
Standards and Assessment Networks for business educators will be organized
to offer support in developing and refining their standards-based programs.
Training for regional network leaders will take place in Spring, 2000.

THE CALIFORNIA
CAREER PATHWAYS CONSORTIA FALL 1999 REGIONAL WORKSHOPS
Many participants attended the four CCPC regional workshops
in Pomona, Long Beach, Monterey, and Chico.
The focus of this year’s workshops was Standards and Assessment. Rozlynn
Worrall, California Department of Education set the stage at the General
Session when she discussed the implementation of state-adopted standards
and the changes necessary to implement these standards in the classroom.
